Nordic Gesamtkunstwerk at the 60th international art exhibition at La Biennale di Venezia

The 60th International Art Exhibition in Venice will be curated by Adriano Pedrosa with the overarching theme of "Stranieri Ovunque – Foreigners Everywhere", taken from a series of works started in 2004 by the collective Claire Fontaine. The works consist of neon sculptures in various colors that reproduce the words "foreigners everywhere" in a growing number of languages.

According to the curator, the biennale will focus on artists who are themselves foreigners, immigrants, emigrants, diasporic, emigrants, exiles and refugees - especially those who have moved between the global south and the global north. In addition to the main exhibition and the projects presented by the national pavilions, 2024 will see 30 side events from around the world.

This time will The Modern Museum in Sweden will be responsible for the Nordic pavilion, with cooperation from Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art in Finland and Office for Contemporary Art in Norway.

The Swedish artist Lap-See Lam has been invited to create the idea and framework for the artwork. The artist Kholod Hawash from Finland and the composer Tze Yeung Ho from Norway join Lam to create an experimental musical installation and performance inspired by an art form with a two thousand year history, Cantonese opera.
